One of the things we rarely see from artists is their sketchbook of ideas.

I'll keep this section updated with doodles and ideas. These are for the most part conceived in Photoshop, which I find is a great way of trying things out (and I don't get covered in paint). If you have any thoughts on any of the sketches, please let me know as it may be the nudge needed to create a final piece.

DAMIEN'S SPOTS - SAINT DAMIEN - JANUARY 2009

I heard that Damien Hirst spot paintings aren't painted by him, but come out of his studio with his name on them. Like a lot of people, I really admire the way his ideas challenge the nature of the art business itself. If Damien ever see's this portrait then I will be happy to paint it myself, then sign it for him.

SPOT DOODLES - JANUARY 2009

As a means to an end the spot idea reminds me of early printing processes. It's been exploited by many in the past including Lichtenstiens Pop Art paintings. I've started to experiment with the idea of layers of dots at different sizes, creating images from representational to abstract.
